Our Team

The Second Chance Café was started by a small group of volunteers who noticed the dual problems of food poverty and food waste, and wanted to do something about it.

Using the power of community, mutual aid and resourcefulness, they built the foundations upon which the café still sits to this day.

We would be nothing without our huge base of rotating volunteers, whose energy and enthusiasm every week is what makes the café run.

Management Team

Rosie, Development Manager

Since September 2025, Rosie has had the role of Development Manager of the Second Chance Café. Preceded by Max and Roy, the Café Manager holds responsibility for the day-to-day running of the café, as well as volunteer management, fundraising, email answering and everything else that might come our way!

Esther, Chef

Esther, our chef on a Friday, has been at the Second Chance Café since the very beginning. If you’ve been lucky enough to try her cooking you’ll understand why so many of our guests come back week after week!

On top of being a very talented chef, Esther is also a fabulous poet, and you’ll find her at the café in the kitchen making everyone laugh, or outside chatting with our regular guests when she gets a spare moment.
